The best graphics cards for gaming

Do you want to know which are the best graphics cards (GPU) for gaming in 2022? To play in 4K, in 1440p or 1080p. Buying a good graphics card for your PC has never been so complicated… almost all models are out of stock. Many cost an awful lot… welcome to the world of cryptocurrencies and bitcoin, to the world of chip and GPU shortages.

eye! The media say that from May 2022 it will be easier to get a graphics card at a good price. Let’s hope it’s true.

The graphics card is the most vital component to enjoy a game on your PC, and with each passing year, those games demand more and more resources from your GPU.

What are the best graphics cards (GPU) for gaming in 2022?

We already warned you that buying a graphics card in 2022 is not an easy task. Prices are skyrocketing and the best options have exorbitant and even absurd prices. There is usually no stock. There is a huge global shortage of graphics cards for various reasons… many say it is the fault of Bitcoin miners, others because of the shortage of silicon (and chips), others because of the coronavirus… it does not matter. Buying a TOP graphics card in 2022 is a task for the brave. DO NOT pay more than they cost. Go to the manufacturer and see what price their graphics cards have. DO NOT pay double or even triple its initial value. Not worth it.

GeForce RTX 3080: the best option of 2022

Best graphics cards (GPU) for gaming

  • GPU: Ampere (GA102) with 8704 GPU cores: 8704
  • GPU Clock Speed: Boost Frequency 1815 MHz (OC Mode)/ 1785 MHz (Gaming Mode)
  • Video RAM: 10GB
  • TDP: 320 watts
  • PCI-Express x16 interface
  • With support for resolutions up to 8K and DLSS algorithms

It is more than 30% faster than the previous generation 2080 Ti card. If you want to play in 4K or 1440p this is the model you need, but you have to buy it at a reasonable price. If you’re only going to be gaming in 1080p, this card is too much for you. Above we have left you the starting prices so that you have the reference.

This model should cost about 700, 800 euros. If you spend a lot of 1000 euros, don’t even think about buying. Not worth it. Also, you’re going to have to wait for stock. It is more reasonably priced than the 3090.

With this card we can finally have decent ray tracing and DLSS: NVIDIA DLSS is a new learning neural network that increases frame rate and generates perfect and sharp images for your games. DLSS is powered by dedicated AI processors in RTX GPUs called Tensor Cores.

Radeon RX 6800 XT: AMD’s best option (without DLSS)

  • PCI-Express x16 interface
  • GDDR6 16Gbps RAM
  • GPU: Navi 21 XT with 4608 cores
  • Clock: 2,250MHz
  • TDP: 300 watts

There’s no point in going for the Radeon 6900 XT: it’s only 5% faster and costs much, much more. But this model does offer you much better performance than the previous generation, the RX 5700 XT: it adds Ray Tracing support and can be up to 70% faster.

And best of all, AMD has achieved it with only 300 W, somewhat less than the 320 W of the previous model. All this better performance is achieved thanks to its 128 MB Infinity Cache.

You just have to keep in mind that the “Ray Tracing” is not as good as in the previous model and that it does not have DLSS.

It only beats the 3080 in gaming rasterization. It’s perfect for 4K and 1440p.

GeForce RTX 3090: perfect for graphic creators

  • GPU: Ampere (GA102) with 10496 cores
  • Clock: 1,695MHz
  • Video RAM: 24GB GDDR6X 19.5Gbps
  • TDP: 350 watts
  • PCI-Express x16 interface

An outrageous price if you can find it… It’s the fastest on the market, the best for designers… Its performance is only 10% higher than the RTX 3080… see if it’s worth it.

The RTX 3090 is the only GeForce Ampere with NVLink support, making it perfect for professional applications and computing. The 24GB of GDDR6X memory is also useful in various content creation applications (Blender).

AMD’s RX 6900 XT challenges the RTX 3090 on traditional rasterization, but that’s it. Just on that.

You have to keep in mind that it needs 350 watts, that it is very expensive and that it does not have much more performance than its little brother, the 3080.

Radeon RX 6700 XT: low price and perfect for 1440p

  • GPU: Navi 22 with 2560 cores
  • Clock: up to 2581MHz
  • Video RAM: 12GB GDDR6 16Gbps
  • TDP: 230 watts
  • Interface: PCI Express x16

With this model, you get a 25% increase in performance compared to the previous generation. It is capable of reaching 2.5 GHz! And it only has 2560 GPU cores (but it does have 12GB of VRAM). It is a perfect model for games in 1440p.

It has a starting price of about 500 euros, so you have it as a reference if you are going to buy it. Right now its price is over 100 euros. A real madness.

The RX 6700 XT is slightly slower than the RTX 3070 and slightly faster than the RTX 3060 Ti, so you have a clear reference of which league this graphics card is playing in.

Ray tracing performance is not very good and cannot compete with DLSS cards.

If you want something faster from AMD this year you have to go for the Radeon RX 6900 XT, but it’s tremendously expensive, it’s not much faster than the 6800 XT… What it does have is VRAM and Infinity Cache to bore you. You probably won’t find it anywhere right now. If you’re lucky you can find it for less than 1,500 euros… And it’s already outrageous… it normally costs more than 2,000 euros (outrageous squared).

AMD Radeon RX 5700: the best option of 2020

  • Core Clock: 2025MHz
  • Memory: 8GB GDDR6
  • Clock memory: 14 Gbps
  • Power Connectors: 1 x 8-pin and 1 x 6-pin
  • With PCI express 4.0 support

If you are looking for good performance at an affordable price, this model is perfect in case you do not want the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060.

You will be able to play at 1440p like a champion. The only drawback is that it doesn’t have Ray Tracing, the famous rendering technique to achieve more realistic effects.
